Our proving methods are NIST traceable, and include the use of traditional volumetric standards, automated in-line dynamic displacer Small Volume Prover (SVP) technology, and precision master meter references (Coriolis, Ultrasonic, Positive Displacement and Turbine). This ensures we are well-equipped to handle any industry metering need.

For example, the growing use of ultrasonic metering in pipeline applications requires the use of high flow, in-line, statistical proving techniques. Petrogas has a mobile master meter that provides the safety and flexibility needed for high-pressure gas pipeline calibration.

With both master meter and SVP technology onboard, accurate custody transfer meter proving services can be provided for high flow rates for Ultrasonic, Coriolis, Positive Displacement, and Turbine meter technologies. Not everyone can do this, but we can.

Additionally, the use of blended fuels for automotive, railcar, and truck use is continually evolving and requires up-to-date standards and processes to achieve consistent metering accuracy. Petrogas’ meter proving trailers are equipped with modern in-line Small Volume Provers and a unique assortment of hoses, cables and electronics. This lets us provide hassle-free meter proving for all rack designs and delivered products (gasoline, ethanol, ULSD, biodiesel, fuel oil, jet fuel).

Liquid and Gas Meter Calibration

Petrogas offers unbeatable world-class custody transfer and flow metering systems expertise to install, calibrate and certify all your primary, secondary, and tertiary measuring devices/instruments.

We meet the calibration needs of oil terminals, ship-unloading/loading, petrochemical plants, gas processing plants, power generation plants, water and wastewater infrastructure, and industrial plants. Petrogas performs the calibration of the following instruments:

Our calibration process entails thoroughly inspecting, testing, and verifying the accuracy of instruments. We then make any necessary adjustments to bring the items completely within tolerance, and we also alert you to issues and can make repairs/provide replacement parts when necessary.

After the work is complete, we issue a Certificate of Calibration for each instrument calibrated showing full details of the process, including the instrument's condition, calibration results, adjustments, and repairs. And to ensure continued accuracy, calibration reminder notices are sent (via email or physical mail) when it is time to recalibrate instruments.

From simple flow measurement systems to more elaborate metering systems, full turnkey projects are available as well. Measurement services are performed according to the original equipment manufacturers' (OEM) procedures utilizing reputable brands of equipment produced by ISO Certified Companies.

Specific Gas Meter Calibration Services (Easy as ABC!)

Accurate measurements are vital, whether the primary purpose is custody transfer, allocation, or process control.

As Tanzania's leading expert in flow measurement best practices and custody transfer, Petrogas has developed a line of service packages under the Master Service Agreement (MSA) range of offerings. These can be combined to offer each customer a service level tailored to meet specific needs economically and be contracted, provided à la carte, or a combination of both.

The "A" Service: Independent Audit of Gas Metering System

Petrogas “functionality and compliance” certification services include onsite visits by experienced technicians who will inspect and confirm whether your devices and instrumentation meet performance and safety standards, usually without having to pull them out of service.

We recommend our "A" Service annually, as it is a very cost-effective way to ensure your equipment is doing what you expect it to do. It also uncovers issues the following two services can address.

The "B" Service: Mobile Prover Based Calibration and Certification

An instrument that is not correctly calibrated can affect nearly every aspect of your business, from safety to productivity to consumer satisfaction to colossal regulatory fines and penalties. Not to mention profitability.

Calibration should be completed at regular intervals to ensure the instrument continues to perform within the accepted limits.

Petrogas uses only the approved (and advanced) Master Meters with Portable Flow Computers. Delivering smart meter verification (SMV) capabilities, Petrogas can calibrate all types of gas flow meters ranging from 1/2" to 12", made by any manufacturer. We'll certify our work, and you'll be certain your instruments are telling you what they need to tell you, accurately.

Our B service is available upon request. It also often comes into play after our A service audit determines it's necessary.

The "C" Service: Repair and Refurbishment

All equipment will eventually need repairs. When that happens, you can count on Petrogas to handle your needs. Most of our maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) services are performed onsite, meeting each customer's unique needs:

• Meter disassembly, part inspections, and total cost estimate

• Bodies chemically stripped; parts cleaned by hand

• Reassembly, replace bearings and any other part required

• Leak test at maximum operating pressure

• Paint, Prove, and badge/seal (proving described below)

 Proving:

• Drain end-caps, collect and dispose of oil

• Flush internal and rinse the meter external with an appropriate solvent (such as Breakthrough)

• Visually inspect to ensure the instrument is free of debris, impellers spin freely, etc. (pass/fail)

• Leak test at maximum operating pressure

• An additional coat of paint (optional)

• Prove meter—pass/fail

• Badge/seal meter and return to service

Note: If a meter fails at any step, it is sent for a full repair or replaced if necessary.

Parts and Additional Services

In addition to our service work, we can supply a variety of products that handle natural gas. This includes regulators, meters, valves, actuators, controllers, filters, heaters, bearings, impellers, gears, seals, sight glasses unique to each meter, and other gas handling products conforming to manufacturer and model type specifications.
